While contemplating how best to offer sympathetic platitudes to poor, unliked Zhou Luoluo, there is a knock on the door.

Lu Yao says, “xiao-Ci, your dad is here.”

His dad is back! His missions are done

Cheng Zhaoci jumps off the bed; his hand that was going to give Zhou Luoluo pats gets dragged along the ride, and gives Zhou Luoluo’s cheek a firm, loud slap.

Both of the insectoids yelp out.

Zhou Luoluo stares in disbelief, “you, you, did….” did he really need to be this hasty

“I’ll apologise later,” Cheng Zhaoci hurriedly rushes off while rubbing his hand.

Cheng Jin hadn’t kept in contact for a while already, probably because of his mission.

Downstairs, he runs into Cheng Jin sitting on the sofa, discussing something with Lu Yao.

He sees Cheng Zhaoci running for him, and gets up with a smile, “xiao-Ci.”

Cheng Zhaoci is running to give his dad a hug, but Lu Yao yanks him by the collars back.

“Xiao-Ci, cool it.

Your dad’s still recovering from his wounds,” sighs Lu Yao.

Really, he has never seen any male son who would happily embrace and huggy-huggy with his dad past the age of 3.

“Wounds!” Cheng Zhaoci stops right in his tracks.

Yes, he knows shemale soldiers cannot avoid injuries forever, but, he also knows insectoid medical technology is scarily advanced.

There are first-aid medical kits, and even full-body medical pods.

If there are wounds that can’t be treated by those, they are at least on the level of losing a limb or two, or having organs literally blasted out of the body.

“I’m fine.

I just came back in a hurry,” Cheng Jin gestures Cheng Zhaoci towards him, “come here, xiao-Ci.”

Cheng Zhaoci looks up and down Cheng Jin.

Outwardly, he doesn’t see anything that has changed beside a slimmer figure and paler skin, “did something happen”

Zhou Luoluo has also come out to the living room, and greets Cheng Jin.

Cheng Jin nods, and gestures for everyone to sit on the sofa.

“An ambush from other space empires,” answers Lu Yao, as he lets himself sink into the sofa, “they don’t dare to invade directly, as we outclass them militarily, technologically, economically, and in any other quantifiable fields.

So they instead pull these little schemes whenever we’re embroiled in internal chaos.

It’s disgusting.”

“Are the wounds severe” Cheng Zhaoci is looking at Cheng Jin the entire time.

He can’t even move his hands to examine, in case it would hurt to touch.

“Don’t worry, my arms and legs are still there,” Cheng Jin ruffles his good son’s head, “dad just hurried back because he missed you.

I haven’t finished my treatment yet, are you scared”

He wouldn’t talk about where he’s hurt.

He probably doesn’t want Cheng Zhaoci to know.

So Cheng Zhaoci wonders why he wouldn’t say it if the wounds aren’t terrible.

He believes in his dad, and that all his limbs are still there, but what about other places

But if his dad doesn’t want to say, then he wouldn’t push either.

As long as he’s back.

Cheng Jin hurried back because of his concern over Cheng Zhaoci’s safety.

A lot has happened while he was off the grid, and his son knows both Jin Yue and Sun Wushe.

He could never know if they might decide to target Cheng Zhaoci or not.

Even though he’s probably as safe as he can be in the Grand Marshal’s mansion, he still has to see him in the flesh with his own two eyes first.

“I’ve heard about Mr Liang.

I’m going to visit later,” Cheng Jin didn’t see that video, of course, but just hearing about its contents is more than enough to know how abhorrent it is.

He can certainly do more to help than Cheng Zhaoci could.

“So, uh, dad, when will you have to go back to the army” Cheng Zhaoci grabs Cheng Jin’s hands.

“Probably not for a while.

They’re demanding I take some time off,” with the reason that he’s a single dad, and his underage male son would become orphaned if something were to happen and hamper his mental development.

Cheng Jin finds the reasoning almost absurd.

His son is already well on his way to an adult.

And most importantly, while it’s rare, there are still other insectoids who have male kids in the army.

They’re still fighting, but are telling him to go take a break.

It makes no sense.

Though if Lu Yao is asked, he would not find it strange.

He sighs while taking a sip from his warm bottle.

Cheng Zhaoci is suspected of being a grade S male.

That’s why, after Cheng Jin suffered rather heavy injuries, the President himself made the direct order to discharge Cheng Jin for now, and let him be a good parent at home.

It’s just in case something did happen to him, causing his suspected grade S male son to mentally break.

Mentally break, and then an indiscriminate revenge against society… The insectoid society is ill-prepared for another assault from a grade S male.

Zhou Luoluo watches Cheng Zhaoci and Cheng Jin’s happy family time together, and can’t help but contrast and compare with his own relationship with his dad and father.

They let him leave home even during these trying times, because he’s too annoying to keep quarantined at home.

He suddenly feels so cold, and decides to give his pitiful, talkative self a hug.

“Uh, Zhou Xiaobao, right” Lu Yao’s grandparent instinct is kicking in, seeing Zhou Luoluo all downcast, standing by himself.

Here’s another teenage male that needs caring.

“My name is Zhou Luoluo,” poor, poor Zhou Luoluo.

Yes, he’s similar in vibe to Zhou Xiaobao, but his features are quite different!

So the Grand Marshal still couldn’t tell him apart even after he’s been here so often Oh, woe is Zhou Luoluo.

This continues until Cheng Jin is finally going to Mr Liang’s, and Zhou Luoluo leaves with him, only to run into Lu Nianqian waiting for him outside.

His mood makes a u-turn.

See He’s also an insectoid loved!
