Parallel Life in a Fantasy World Church

About a month has passed since Marielle was born. Mom had put a baby bed in her room and always have Marie sleep there. When she is working, shell put her in my room instead and have me take care of her. Of course, I always relax around my room as well, so I played with Marie one sidedly sometimes, since shes a baby and can exactly play with me.

Today is the first day of Spring. Also, this would be really near my birthday, but I have heard that they didn care about the exact date and instead went with the season : early, mid or late.

Its about mid noon now, and today Gondur took me out to the school grounds to practise my illusion magic, which is rare because usually when he bring me here its just elemental magic practise.

"-as you can see, illusions are but a manifestation of the casters mana. They take a lot of mana control and focus to continue existing, one distraction or minor mistake and the illusion will be gone. As such, illusion magic is usually only capable of being used in combat by demonic beings, since they have a large enough mana pool and control to do so. "

"Teacher, lets say they used the master ranked spell Image and created a transparent clone of themselves. Can they enchant their illusions with some kind of barrier magic to make them into a clone of sorts that can physically interact with objects? "

"Fantastic question, this what I like about you! If only all my students were this eager... Ahem. Yes, high ranking demons were known to have used magic similar to enchanting magic to apply physical traits to their illusions, and some even made clones of themselves to help in battle this way. Those demons are highly dangerous, but this spell itself is rather unrealistic because of how much mana it will consume, and how much control you need to exert to prolong its existence. Its weaker than just blasting your opponents with element magic, unless you are a demon who can cast magic like that. "

"That makes sense. The simplest magic are the most useful ones after all. "

"Indeed. Anyway, its time to head back, or else your mother would complain to me. "

"Okay. "

We walked through the streets, around the market area. I have always walked down this path with teacher on and back from our way to school. This is also the place where I have first seriously injured someone, in self defense.

"Oh yea Kyrielle. "

"Yes teacher? "

"You should be 6 now right? That means youll graduate from my teaching. Its a ceremonial custom to gift your student something when they graduate. You have anything you want? This old man doesn know what young girls like you like, so its better to just ask. Also, you can stop being so formal with me. "

"Hmm, what I want huh? "

I thought about it for a while. Theres really not much that I want, because what I want is not something that can be gifted, skills or knowledge being the example. Well, maybe I do want a book.

"Can I have a book? About elemental magic. Specifically, it details element outside of the 4 basic ones, water, earth, fire and wind. What I want is a book that details lightning, dark, light, and corrosion. "

I have no affinity for those elements, as far as I know, fire is still my strongest type. But I still want to learn about them since even if I am not gifted at them, I am still better than average at those other elements, as I haven even met someone who can cast them silently like I do.

Frankly, I have never casted a spell of those 4 elements though, so I don know if I am good with them or not.

"Oh, so you want knowledge? That is just like you. I already have a book which Im planning to give you after you graduate from me. This gift Im talking about is more personal, come on don be so boring, think of something else. "

"Hmm in that case I want hair ties! " I just randomly choosed what came to my mind as I didn care at all.

"I see, thats a rather cheap gift. Well buy them here then. "

I picked a pair of hair ties that looked like ribbons. The tie that Im using with my twin tails now are bland black ones, while this one I just choosed is blue in color which went well with my hair.

"It looks good on you. " Gondur said.

"Ehh? Creepy old man... " I teased him.

"Your banter is useless, I have lived lifetimes ahead of you to fall for your tease. Is that all? Well head home. "

"Lets go then. "

We headed home as usual, like a grandpa and his grand daughter. We walked for a bit and affived in front of my home. As soon as I step foot in the door though...

"Congratulations for growing up! " Mom, dad and Ghyse shouted as they welcomed me in. This shocked me to be honest as I wasn expecting it for real, as weird as it sounds.

I turned around to look at Gondur and he smiled as he said "Congratulations. ".

"Come on in Kyrie, we have prepared a celebration for you turning 6, as well as for your graduation from uncle Gondur here."

"Wow, I don know what to say but... Thank you! " I said so cheerfully.

They led me to the kitchen and on the dining table is a grand meal. With plates of meat that looked like steak, fresh fruits and well cooked stew, unlike the usual wheat porridge, bread, or bland stew that we eat.

We sat down and ate happily. It seems that unlike on earth, theres no cake for celebration nor is there a ceremony for performing wishes for your birthday. This is fine though, this is an entirely different culture of another world after all.

Of course, I tried to feed Marie but she can chew solid food yet. But when I fed her the stew, it seemed like she liked it.

And so, after eating our large lunch meal, Gondur packed up and leave.

"Kyrielle, before I go, I must tell you something. "

"Yea? "

"You are gonna attend Zowards Academy about 2 or 3 weeks from now on. Remember, your magic is superior from the others, so you need to tune it down to match with them. The principal have confidence in his protection magic for spars, but it can block every spell. We don know if a fireball coming from someone like you will break the shield that activates in the body of the target, so its better to be careful. Please don be expelled because of this idiotic reason.

"...Ill keep it in mind all the time. "

"Alright. Ill go now, you can always come to my house if you want anything, but don expect me to buy you things like I did today! I only did that because today is a special day for you. Oh yea, don forget to drop by maybe tomorrow to take that book. "

"Okay! Goodbye! "

"Goodbye. Ms and Mr Buffet, Ill take my leave. Takes for the lunch, it was delicious."

"Alright. Take care on your way home. " Dad responded.

Gondur patted my head for the final time and then left.

"Alright, Ill take my leave as well. My boyfriend is waiting for me at home. "

"Okay, be careful as well alright? " This time, mom replied.

"Now, if youll excuse me, I probably won be back here so frequently. Of course Ill come and hang out sometimes. Kyrie, you have to take care of yourself, and your mom alright? Goodbye."

As she said that, she also patted my head before she left. Before I know it, she stopped calling me Lady Kyrielle and instead calls my nickname Kyrie. It was her way of implying that we got closer.

"Alright, now that everyone has left, its time to discuss business. " Mom talked.

"Hmm." I think I know where this is going. Its most likely about the school.

"Kyrie, we need to head to the church and register you as a citizen here, and to give you an identification card."

"There, the priest will use Apraisal on you, a secret magic that is passed down upon generations of the church family. It will see your ability, your age and of course, your name and other details. The data recorded will be stored in the church, and a card for your identity is handed out. That card is necessary to attend the school as well. "

"I see. Do I need to prepare anything for this?" I asked.

"Theres no need to. You just have to show up. "

"Okay. "

"Hmm? Kyrielle, have you changed your hair ties into ribbons? " Dad asked curiously, he is oddly observant today.

"So you have finally noticed it? Gondur bought it for me as a present! "

"It looks good, thats great. "

"Thank you!"

I felt nicer after a genuine praise. We all cleaned up the dish and continued the day as usual afterwards.

(The next morning)

Today is the day where I will head to the church and get my identity card, and registers as a citizen. Why do we need to head to the church rather than the government building? Thats because the church is the primary social service center here, and it exists side by side along with the monarch, our king, though he doesn live in this city. This meant that the church has the superior political power here since theres no royalty with higher ranking that lives here.

The church offers all kinds of things similar to a government building would, and has miracle services free of charge for one time a day. This is actually a really good thing, as it ensures the peoples health. They also clean up the streets, offers license for shops, etc.

Normally in books and fantasies, they charge miracle services for a really high price to gain profits. But here the miracles are for free because the priests are genuinely good people and how the God that they are praying to will stop giving them their miracles if they ever use them for greed. This rule not just apply to the church, but to priests outside as well, even in an adventurer party. It is illegal to charge a price for your miracles, it is the law of their god.

Anyway, the church has a secret magic called Apraisal, which they can use on you and see direct information of you without you ever talking. That is a really useful ability, just like what almost every fantasy game has.

When used on you, if the conditions for becoming a citizen is correct, then youll gain a identification paper, simple as that. But I think that theres a limit to how much that technique tells about each person, other wise it would be called mind reading.

Anyway, I approached the church with dad this time. Mom isn coming because she has work to do since today is the fourth day of the week and dad had the day off as he has a weekend shift tomorrow, so thats why hes the one bringing me here instead. This oddly reminded me of 2 years ago, when I went to find the principal of the magic school. Soon, I will have to head there again, and Im actually rather looking forward to it.

Back to the topic at hand, right now we are approaching the big church. I have never been there before, but sometimes when walking near the church you could hear and even see the bell at the top most tower ringing. Each time it rang the air vibrations were strong enough to make the ground and your body shake.

"We are here. Your mom used to come here a lot to pray, but after giving birth to you she doesn have the time or the energy to come here as often. She still comes here about once a week though."

"What exactly is this church built for?"

"For worshipping the 12 Great Gods who descended down here about one thousand six hundred years ago. These 12 gods follow concepts like time, magic, or something else like that. Im not a really religious person though, you should ask mom about that. "

"Mmn. "

"Are you ready now? Well head in and do the registration. "

"Okay. Lets go. "

We entered the church through the front gate, which is wide open for visitors. Inside is a long hallway with lots of counters on the side. The hallway leads further down into the church where the width expands without the counter in place, and becomes a prayer center, or something like that.

The white walls are really well decorated with carvings of the twelve gods. This church is quite a bit similar to the churches back on earth but also different, I can tell much because like I said before I wasn a religious person, nor am I now.

Finally at the end of the building theres a large altar with 12 statues of the gods in top. In front of the altar is a stand, which is most likely for someone like the pope to put his books or papers on when he is holding a speech.

Our objective here today wasn sight seeing, however I was quite fascinated by the church so I ran inside the praying area immediately.

"Hey! Don run off too far!" Dad warned me but I pay it no mind.

"Hello there, mister. I am a priestess on duty right now. How may I help you? "

"Hello sister. Im here for a registration for citizenship. For my daughter of course. "

"Just to confirm, is she 6 years old already? "

"She turned 6 when counted in seasons. Here is the proof, sadly it didn record her exact birth date. "

"Signed by Ghyse Kindred... I see. Very well, she meets the conditions for registering as a citizen, please bring her to the first counter, a person with the right qualification will finish everything else."

Thats the first time I have heard of Ghyses family name. I don know how the family names of this world works so maybe moms family name used to be that as well.

"Alright, thank you for your service sister. "

"Its my pleasure. "

After finishing the conversation with the sister, dad walked at me when I was curiously watching the church further inside.

"Come on now, we can explore once we are done with the registration. "

"Okay. "

We walked towards the first counter. There, sat a young man of about 20 years old, slightly younger than dad.

I had to stand on the tip my feet to look over the counter because Im still a shorty.

"So, is she the one who will be getting the registration? Or both? "

"Her only. "

"Alright. "

He chants a magic and a white crest glows. Not on his hand though, its on the floor where Im standing. Actually, its targeting is on me, as it moved along side me when I tried stepping away from the crest.

"Please don move too much, young miss. That spell is to weaken your magic defense so that the popes magic eye can use Appraisal on you successfully. Don worry, it lasts only about a minute. "

Magic eye? Also, this spell should be a miracle, and yet it has negative effects. It seems I still have much to learn about miracles.

The crest finished glowing and fainted away. Nothing weird happened to my magic control, I thought its supposed to weaken your magic?

"You resisted it? That was an adept ranked curse and this kid just resisted it like its nothing? "

A curse you say? It seems that the gods of this world help their people to curse others. Strange religion...

"Ah well about that... Shes gifted in magic." Dad explained.

"Being gifted with magic have nothing to do with this, as resisting a debuff like that requires precise control of ones Reserved Ma- "

"Whats the commotion here, Abby? "

"Its... This little girl wishes to be registered, but it seems that the magic resistance curse doesn work on her. "

"Hah, don be so dramatic. My eyes can see through all, curse or no. Its only for ceremonial purposes." It seemed like this guy talking is the pope.

He wore a large white robe with golden linings and a small rectangular hat of roughly the same design. He is an old man of about 60 years old, but he looks muscular and healthy, I can tell through that robe because his arms are somewhat stout. One of his most prominent characteristic is that his eyes are different in color. One is normal brown eye, the other is a red eye. That red eye is most likely the magic eye that can use Appraisal. Unlike my own hazel eyes, his is a lot more shinier and even glows like a cars brake lights.

"Little miss, Ill have to use my magic eye on you. Is that fine? "

"Alright. "

"Good. Youll feel a hit uncomfortable as if someone is really staring at you, but itll be over in an instant. "

His reds eyes glowed up even more, like when a car hit the brakes, and as soon as he did I could feel an extremely weird sense of uncomfortableness as if I was having a panic attack. But since he told me about it, I expected this and held strong.

"Hm...this might be a problem. "

"Is something wrong?" Dad asked with a concerned face, and the young priest was confused as well.

"Not really, she meets the criteria for becoming a citizen. "

"Thats great then, what is the problem? "

"....Abby, leave us. "

The young priest who was called Abby was stunned for a bit but he soon decided to just obey and left the place.

"Follow me little girl, to the front of the altar. Your father may come as well. "

"Okay? "

We followed the pope to the praying section, where he stood and turned back to us.

"Little misss father, if possible I would like to speak with her privately for a bit. "

"Oh, well then please excuse me. " Dad said that as he sit himself down in front of a bench.

"Alright, come on. "

We walked towards the front of the altar.

"Okay little girl, are you someone from another world?"

What?! How the hell did he find out...Did Appraisal tell him that much?

"H-how did you know?!"

"I am Rick, the all seeing pope of this city. There are no secrets that wouldn be revealed when under my eyes. "

"I-I see... Yes... I am someone from another world who was reincarnated here when I died. "

"Hmm... I see."

"...Will I be executed? "

"What? You sure like to joke, of course not. Im just asking to make sure. Besides, even if you are an other worlder, you are still born here in this world and met every criteria for being a citizen. You belong here, you know? Have more confidence. "

"I-I see..."

"Well then, since that is out of the way. Lets get back to the topic. The father, you may come here now. "

"Your little chat is over already? So whats the problem here? "

"Ill get to the point. Little miss, you are not fully human."

...wha?...

...

What?!
